My research goals blend geology, economics, and policy, including:
  • Understanding urban coastal behaviors
    • Coupling a game-theoretic framework with coastal morphodynamic processes
    • Understanding how alongshore-neighboring communities make management decisions (i.e. beach nourishment and groin construction) in concert vs. independently
    • Exploring how community-scale socioeconomics and beach recreational values control the frequency of re-nourishment projects
  • Building numerical modeling frameworks to tackle complex questions; predicting future scenarios for coastal communities based on the feedbacks between humans and physical environments
  • Deploying quantitative scientific concepts effectively for future public policies
    • Citizen science initiatives to foster participation in data collection
    • Community outreach with local students to engage their interests in science
    • Involvement with local government agencies to address sea-level-rise threats facing beach towns
